To build a house, do you need the foundation that makes it stable, strong, and a durable house? Yes, and that is exactly what a child needs in reading, the foundation of phonics, spelling, vocabulary, and reading fluency to build the structure that he/ she will need throughout their academic journey. Once this foundation is laid, the focus in Middle and High School is facilitated by a deeper understanding and comprehension of literary and scientific texts, and the ability to use context to extract meaning.
